Bobbitt Wins A Close One In WY
Russell Bobbitt claimed his fourth win of the year at round six of the AMA/Rekluse National Enduro Series, finishing 32 seconds ahead of Shock Doctor KTM teammate Michael Lafferty at the Inyan Kara Riders Enduro in Upton, Wyoming.
The 94-mile Wyoming event, which was held at an elevation of 4200 feet, was the first of a two-round western swing of the schedule (next week’s round is in Montana), where the riders are typically greeted with much different terrain than what they find at the eastern rounds. But that suited Bobbitt just fine, who admittedly likes the faster courses.
“This was a fast and flowing event and I like that kind of stuff,” said Bobbitt. “This was a course that suited my style and I knew I might have an advantage coming in here. But Mike was riding strong, he was back on his 400 and he rides that bike really well. We’re both going fast, so it’s about whoever makes the least amount of mistakes.”
Lafferty has two wins so far in the series and he came into Wyoming hoping to regain the momentum he lost at the last round in Tennessee. The eight-time national champion was fastest in two checks, but admittedly couldn't’t keep Bobbitt’s pace for the entire distance.
“I just wasn't’t up to pace in some places, but I tried my best and that’s all I can do,” said Lafferty. “I slid out here and there, but I think everybody had issues, so that wasn't’t the problem. It just wasn't’t my day, plain and simple.”
Lafferty was particularly fast in the fifth section, one of the “specials” where he beat Bobbitt, but it only amounted to a three-second swing, which did little to change the final outcome.
With the win, Bobbitt gained an additional five points on Lafferty, extending his lead in the series standings to 15 points (166 to 151).
Finishing third on the day was Ian Blythe. The Colorado KTM rider finished 221 seconds down from Lafferty, giving him his best-ever national finish.
Fourth went to Texan Cole Kirkpatrick, who missed the podium by 12 seconds, while Nick Fahringer rode a 570 Husaberg to fifth, another 32 seconds back.
Overall:
1. Russell Bobbitt (KTM); 2. Michael Lafferty (KTM); 3. Ian Blythe (KTM); 4. Cole Kirkpatrick (KTM); 5. Nick Fahringer (HUSB); 6. Bernie Fredrick (Yam); 7. Brad Bakken (KTM); 8. Carsten Cagle (KTM); 9. Fred Hoess (Kaw); 10. Rory Sullivan (HUSB).

King Richard Wants You!!
Calling all Enduro Clubs and Promoters!!
Dick Burleson wants you to join the NEPG in the continued growth of the National Enduro Series. As you all have heard and seen, the AMA/Rekluse National Enduro Series presented by Moose Racing has made a huge come back over the past two years. We are seeing rider participation that rival the Enduro hay days when bikes where air cooled and Dick Burleson ruled the Enduro Kingdom. With the restart format and Electronic Scoring being handled by the NEPG, the National Enduro Series has evolved, just like the bikes that we all ride today. Dick and the NEPG are asking for clubs and promoters that are interested in hosting a national enduro in 2010, to submit an application to the AMA by August 1st. Back in the 70s there were 100’s of clubs putting on Enduro's, but with land closures and regulations dealing with street legal bikes, many of these clubs had to stop holding Enduro's. With the new format things have changed. So if you’re club would like to learn more about the “New” National Enduro Series, please contact the NEPG at info@nationalenduro.com

Bobbitt Back On Top In TN

Having lost two-straight rounds to his Muscle Milk/Shock Doctor KTM teammate Michael Lafferty, Russell Bobbitt got back on track with a resounding victory at round five of the AMA/Rekluse National Enduro Series held near Westpoint, Tennessee.
Bobbitt, the defending series champion, topped Lafferty by nearly three minutes at the finish of the NATRA-organized event, winning five of the six sections making up the 78-mile race.
This year’s series has been all about shifts in momentum and today’s win leaves Bobbitt in the driver seat as the series enters a six-week break before heading westward.
“This was a good win for me,” said Bobbitt. “It gave me a little breathing room before the gap in the schedule.”
Bobbitt attributed his domination to bike set-up, having spent the week pervious to the race testing at a friend’s house in Birmingham, Alabama, which happens to have terrain similar to that found at the Westpoint venue.
“We went back to a more original set-up for this race and it was definitely a good decision,” said Bobbitt. “The bike felt a lot better and that gave me confidence… when I have confidence I ride well.”
Lafferty had been on a roll heading into the Tennessee race after winning rounds in Florida and Louisiana, but the eight-time champ simply had no answer for Bobbitt at this one.
“It just got beat plain and simple, and I really don’t have any excuses,” said Lafferty. “Russell rode a heck of a race and I was pretty much battling for second all day.”
Claiming his best-ever enduro finish was Yamaha’s Jason Raines. The five-time National Hare Scrambles Champion even moved into second ahead of Lafferty at the midway point of the race, but a late-race push by Lafferty dropped Raines to third by the end of the event.
“I have been struggling at the start of these races and coming on strong at the end, but today I got off to a great start and faded at the finish,” said Raines. “It was almost like once I found out what position I was in I was thinking about it. I just ended up making too many mistakes in the end. But this was a good building block for me and every race I’ve been getting better and better.”
Husaberg’s Nick Fahringer kept Brad Bakken at bay to take fourth, ahead of the KTM rider. Meanwhile, Wally Palmer rode a Kawasaki-powered two-wheeled drive Christini to fifth.
O/A: 1. Russell Bobbitt (KTM); 2. Michael Lafferty (KTM); 3. Jason Raines (Yam); 4. Nick Fahringer (Hsb); 5. Brad Bakken (KTM); 6. Wally Palmer (Kaw); 7. Dustin Gibson (Kaw); 8. Cole Kirkpatrick (KTM); 9. Jeff Melik (Yam); 10. Rory Sullivan (KTM).

Russell Bobbitt (KTM) took top honors today at the Rad Dad National Enduro in Westpoint TN today. Mike Lafferty (KTM), Jason Raines (YAM), Nick Fahringer (HUSABERG) and Brad Bakken (KTM) rounded out the top five.
