Kirkpatrick tops the Lone Star
Cole Kirkpatrick collected the $1,000 top prize for taking the win at the Lone Star national with a score of 36. In only his second season in the series he has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, moving up to 3rd in the championship. Nick Brozovich with a week end off from the WORCS series, thought that he would try his first national enduro and took home $700 for a solid second place on his new Suzuki with a 38. Third for the day was the 2006 champ Russell Bobbitt, losing out to Brozovich at the tie breaker but took over the series points lead from defending champ Mike Lafferty as he had to sit out of the event with a broken foot. Rounding out the top five were Colorado's Ian Blythe and California's Jordan Brandt.

If you have never been to west Texas here is a small taste of what you can expect. But don't be fooled by the wide open trails that you see here, because there are plenty of "tight" rocky canyons to test your enduro skills.

Lone star Preview
Just got word from trail boss Kelly Simmons of the Lubbock Trial Riders that their national event on April 20th will consist of 6 test sections with the approx. length of each test being 5.5, 7.5, 11.0, 13.5, 4.5 and 10.0.
There will be a two B & C rider splits, but you won't be just sitting around. Those riders will just have a separate test consisting of some less difficult terrain. Both splits will be right as you go through a start control and will merge back together just before the next emergency check. The "C" riders will finish around the 55-mile mark where as the pros, A and B riders will have about a 75-mile ride.
Conditions look to be dry and dusty unless some rain is delivered this week, so bring a extra air filter. In tradition of classic Texas hospitality, the LTR club will have some refreshments stations along the course, where you will have time to stop and get a drink, wash your face and snack on some fruit and other goodies that they will have available to all the riders.
For those of you that haven't been to a national enduro this year, we will be using transponders for scoring (no traditional score card). There will be an antenna right after the start control and one right at the emergency check outs that you will pass by single file.

At the check outs there will be a LED display that will show your rider number and time when you go past the antenna. Please don't stop to look at the display and hold riders up behind you, just slow down and look at your time as you pass the display.
Some local circuits have been using the same cylinder transponders,

we can reprogram most of those to work with our system, but just keep in mind that you will have to have your local series reprogram it back when you go ride one of their events. You can purchase one from us for $20 or leave a $20 deposit and receive $15 when you return it after the event. The expected life of the transponder is at least five years so you should have plenty of opportunity to use them in the future.
This is the proper way to to mount your transponder.

Mike Lafferty Breaks Foot

Defending National Enduro champion Mike Lafferty was just checked in to a local hospital near his home in Millville NJ. He reportedly slid sideways in to a tree while practicing, smashing his foot between the tree and engine cases. He is scheduled to undergo surgery tonight to pin several bones across the top of his foot. There is no estimate at this time as to how long he will be out of action.

WEC Swedish rider Tobias Burman is coming to Texas!!
This year a new Swedish rider will compete in the AMA/FMF National Enduro Series presented by Maxxis. After last year’s rider Ricard Wressel on a Husaberg, the new kid on the block Tobias Burman will make his debut at the Lone Star National Enduro on April 20th on a Gas Gas 300 EC provided by Gofasters.com
Tobias Burman, a 25 year old rider from Osterbybruk (Sweden), was ready for a new challenge and really liked the terrain and atmosphere at the WEC round at Hancock NY in 2006. Tobias contacted Off Road Champions to see if they could assist him finding him a ride in the US. Erik Nijkamp from offroadchampions.com went to work and knew that Gas Gas and Gofasters.com were still looking for a rider to compete in the National Enduro Series. Mark Berg from Gofasters was excited to give Burman a chance on a 300 Gas Gas at the National in TX. Mark: “At one point we were talking to 2007 ISDE E1 winner Jari Matilla to ride for us but that did not work out. We still had a racing bike sitting in our shop not being used. We looked at Burman’s resume and are willing to give him a chance”. If he does well we may support him at a few more Nationals this year”.
Tobias is excited to race in the USA and has already practice on a GG 300 at home. “I was able to borough a 300 EC bike from a friend to get used to the bike. I normally ride a 250 KTM 4 stroke so this totally different bike. I really like the GG and are looking forward putting in a good effort for Gas Gas USA and Gofasters”. Tobias continues that had initially planned to do a few European Enduro Championship races, but with one being in Sicily, that the cost of the trip to the USA is less and cost him less vacation time then the trip inside Europe to Southern Italy.
Burman who works at the Forsmark Nuclear Power plant as a Computer expert, takes care of an overhead crane and the programming of it, will bring his dad and his mechanic to Texas. He can also count on support from Mark Berg from Gofasters, Klim gear and local rider Billy Innes.
Good luck Tobias!!

Lafferty wins Cajun Classic (Barely)
The third round of the AMA/FMF National Enduro Series presented by Maxxis may have been the closest margin of victory ever for an AMA national Enduro because , just when you didn't’t think that KTM team mates Mike Lafferty and Russell Bobbitt couldn't’t possibly race any more equal than at the first round where Lafferty edged Bobbitt by 6 seconds, it gets even closer with Lafferty coming out on top at round #3 by only 3 seconds.
The two battled the approx. 350 other riders and each other in the 70+ mile course that the Acadiana Dirt Riders did a great job putting together. It consisted of nearly 100% of quality single track with plenty of tree roots and an occasional low spot to practice you rut riding skills.
The day started out with a 3-mile warm up before the first 3.5-mile test section that had the tightest trail of the day. Lafferty would lead the way with a 4-32 followed by Bobbitt’s 4-35 and New Jerseys Wally Palmer at 4-46.
Another 6-mile transfer would take the riders to the second test section which was 10-miles in length and much faster than the first section. Bobbitt would take the section by 4 seconds and the race lead by 1 sec. Palmer also had a good section only 1 sec. behind Lafferty while the big Texan Cole Kirkpatrick lost a point to the three leaders.
The ADR club finished out the first loop with a very technical 10.5-mile section to bring the riders in to the gas stop that had many creek banks, ravines and large logs for some great spectating. Lafferty’s 7-00 gained his biggest edge of the day, but that only amounted to a mere 12 seconds over Bobbitt’s 7-12. Palmer and Kirkpatrick also continued their battle for the final podium spot each dropping 8.
The rider then had a short break for fuel and then it was back on the trail for a second loop of the same course. With the trail fully established now the times for most all riders were getting quicker, as the top four were about 25sec. faster through the fourth test. Bobbitt had gained back 5 of the 11 seconds and now was only 6 seconds behind Lafferty.
Once again the two KTM pilots were the quickest through the 10-mile long test five and this time it was Lafferty extending his small lead by 2 seconds and now held an 8 second lead going into the final test. It was clear that either rider was about to let off and it would be all or nothing for the last 10.5 miles. Bobbitt was quickest for the third time but it wasn't’t quite enough, getting 5 of the 8 seconds back but still 3 seconds short of the win.
Kirkpatrick continued to keep pace with Palmer for third, but the one extra point in the second test would keep him looking for his first podium finish in his young career. Team Am-Pro Yamaha rider Jason Raines was on hand gunning to give the KTM boys some pressure, but a rare mechanical problem Sunday morning made it impossible for him to even leave the starting line.
Lafferty now holds down a slim one point lead in the series championship when the series continues in TX on April 20th.

Bobbitt Win Cherokee!
2006 National Enduro Champion Russell Bobbitt was the man to beat at round #2 or the AMA/FMF National Enduro Series presented by Maxxis near Greensboro GA. He put together a very convincing win of three points over Team Am-Pros Yamaha’s Jason Raines and four points over 2007 champ Mike Lafferty.
The course was still a little wet from Friday rains for the 511 riders that signed up for the 76-mile run through the GA pines. The riders had 6 sections ranging from 4 to 10-miles in length made for a challenging but fun event for most all competitors.
Bobbitt now holds down a 4 point advantage over Lafferty headed in to the next round in LA on March 16th.
Cory Buttrick was the top A class rider and 6th overall, while Hunter Wallace and Lee Rowland were the top B and C class champions.

Cherokee National Enduro
www.cherokeeenduroriders.com
The Cherokee Enduro Riders will be hosting Round 2 of the AMA/FMF - National Enduro Series in Greensboro, GA. This year's enduro will be their 42nd annual and 18th AMA National Enduro.
I spoke this week to Club President - Garrett McKey about the upcoming race and here are a few details.
We are very excited to be hosting Round 2 in Greensboro. The Cherokee has a long standing tradition of being one of the best enduro's in the Southern U.S. Last year was our first year implementing the new "Start-Control" format and it was well received by new and seasoned riders alike. You can expect a bit of everything at the Cherokee. Although, we have yet to complete our full mileage run, we expect to have between 85-90 ground miles with 60 or so being made of 7 "test sections" through the woods and another 25 or so "connecting" miles mostly consisting of gravel roads. This year’s race consists of the same great trail that won the Cherokee, SETRA's 2006-2007 Enduro of the Year award with close to 8 or so miles of new "quality" enduro trail to test big boys. Expect to use all the gears in the gear box!!!!
As of 1-31-08, we had 342 pre-entries and we expect the same great turn-out that was received at the Sumter National. The row drawing will be held this coming Sunday and we hope to have the row assignments available and posted on our home page by Sunday evening.

Check out this awesome helmet cam video that Jonathon Belle took at the first 2008 national enduro in Sumter SC.
He did a great job of staying with # 21, 22 and 23 for a while. When they disappeared he edited the video to fade out and back in for the next rider. Sumter National Enduro
