GasGas Duo Comes Out Swinging At National Enduro Series Opener In South Carolina

Sumter, SC (February 4, 2018) – GasGas FAR Racing’s Andrew DeLong and Nick Davis kicked off the 2018 season with solid top-10 finishes against a stacked field at the opening round of the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series near Sumter, South Carolina. Off and on rain that at one point became a downpour turned the sandy Sumter course into deep, choppy ruts, however DeLong and Davis handled the conditions well in their debut rides on GasGas.

Riding a GasGas XC300, DeLong started the day with a solid seventh place finish in the opening test, despite taking a digger when he hit a square edge on the trail. The Pennsylvania rider spent most of the race learning the bike and making mental notes for for future reference. In the end, the former national enduro champion finished off the day with a respectable 10th place finish.

Andrew Delong: I’m really excited to get in on the ground floor with this new effort by Gas Gas North America on the FAR Racing Gas Gas team. I feel privileged to be part of it and I’m honored to be chosen to help with this effort. This was an encouraging start to the season. We had some ups and downs, but I’m still learning the bike and I feel I made some good progress today, and found some settings that will help as the season progresses. This was my first race on the new bike and I’m still learning how it reacts, but overall it was a pretty solid day. In the first test I had my suspension set a little stiff and I hit a square edge and it bucked me off, but we adjusted before the second test and it was great after that. I just rode super smooth and tried to learn as much as I could.

Starting from row 96 – a clear handicap on a sandy course that got rougher as the day moved along – Nick Davis finished a solid eighth in the NE Pro2 division on his 2018 XC250. Davis turned in an inspired ride through the wet, choppy sand. Fighting lappers all the way, Davis capped off his day with the fastest Pro2 time in the final test, however a rough go with lappers in the fourth test keep him from reaching the podium.

Nick Davis: It was a pretty good day, all in all. I felt I turned in the best enduro performance of my career. I just messed up on my entry and wound up on row 96 and I suffered for it. I felt really good and the bike was phenomenal and I won a test and finished second in another. In the fourth test it started raining really hard and the whole test was like a slot car track and I got stuck behind a few riders and it cost me three or four minutes. Had it not been for that, we would have been battling for a podium. But it was a good overall weekend and I’m looking forward to the next round in Louisiana.
