KTM RIDERS CLAIM TWO PODIUM POSITIONS AT THE GRASSMAN NATIONAL ENDURO

Round 7 - AMA National Enduro Series - August 27, 2018
CHANDLERSVILLE,Ohio – Round 7 of the AMA National Enduro Series took place on Sunday in Chandlersville, Ohio and KTM-mounted riders claimed two of the top-three podium positions for the day. In a battle down to the final test, it was Tely Energy KTM’s Steward Baylor Jr. who claimed the runner-up position, while FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Josh Toth finished five seconds back for third overall.

Coming off his first win at the previous round, Toth came into the Grassman National Enduro with great momentum behind him. However, things started off slow for Toth as he finished sixth in the first test of the day. The FMF KTM Factory racer was able to bounce back quickly, though, winning the second test and finishing a consistent 3-4-3-3 for the remainder of the afternoon’s tests. Coming into the final test, Toth was in a head-to-head battle with Steward Baylor for the second-place position but mistakes near the end ultimately cost Toth the upper hand as he finished five seconds back for third overall.

Toth: “I was riding smooth at the beginning of the race but definitely way off the pace. I picked it up around the halfway point and things were going good but I had a really bad time in the last test. It was really slick out there and it got me a few times out there, which ultimately cost me second place.”

Tely Energy KTM's Steward Baylor Jr. rode a consistent day in Ohio, finishing inside the top-five all afternoon. Baylor’s advantage really came in the final test as he pushed to his best finish of the day with second, which was good enough to clinch the runner-up position by five seconds over Toth. As a result, Baylor took control of the championship points, where he sits just four ahead of Toth with two rounds remaining. His teammate and brother, Grant Baylor, came out swinging to win the opening test of the day, but trouble in test two cost him a chance at fighting for the overall podium as he finished fifth for the day.

Trail Jesters/KTM Racing’s Ben Kelley had a great start to the day, finishing well inside the top five in the first five tests. However, Kelley crashed on the last test and bent his front rotor, which cost him a podium finish and sent him back to sixth overall for the day.

Eight-time AMA National Enduro Champion and former KTM Factory Offroad Racer, Mike Lafferty, rode the Grassman National Enduro in the AA class aboard the same 1997 KTM 250 EXC that he won his first title on. Lafferty finished an impressive seventh place in the class after soldiering through a broken throttle cable in the final test of the day.
