Kailub Russell Leads Points Heading Into Texas National Enduro
Eaton Rapids, Mich. (March 16, 2015) – Kailub Russell will be carrying a seven-point lead in the series standings heading into this weekend’s round three of the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series near Gainesville, Texas. The FMF/KTM factory racer has two runner-up finishes so far in two rounds and will be looking to take down his first-ever victory in National Enduro competition in the red clay dirt of north Texas.
Looking to gain ground on Russell in the standings will be round-one winner FLY Racing/Tech KTM’s Steward Baylor and round-two winner Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Andrew DeLong. Interestingly, both riders are dealing with almost identical broken collarbones, Baylor’s happening the week before round two of the series about 18 days ago, while DeLong broke his collarbone at the GNCC in Florida on March 8th. DeLong and Baylor are tied for second in the series standings at 43 each while Russell leads with 50 points.
Also vying for points in Texas will be MotoSport.com/AmPro Yamaha’s Brad Bakken, who was third at the series opener, and N-Fab/AmPro Yamaha’s Grant Baylor, who was third at the most recent round in South Carolina. Both riders are coming on strong this season and could very well take their first win of the season, as well.
FMF/KTM’s Russell Bobbitt, and Beta USA’s Cory Buttrick are both close to breaking into podium positions and Texas just might provide that opportunity. Meanwhile, Beta USA’s Jesse Groemm, last year’s number two rider in the country, is still not cleared to ride due to a concussion.
Back for round three is the AirGroup Racing Bounty, which will award $1000 to any ride that can win all six tests in the Overall results. If no one takes home the prize the amount will double to $2000 for the next eligible round. The AirGroup Racing Bounty is offered at rounds to the schedule and the other two rounds offering the Bounty are the Wyoming and Michigan rounds.
However, to throw a wrench into the works, AirGroup Racing also awarding a “Spoiler” Bounty of $250 if a rider can stop another rider from winning all six tests.
Spectator access for the Texas round will be excellent since eight of the 12 checks are located in or near the pits. There will also be a concession stand available with hot food, as well.
Riders will be available to sign autographs in the pits on Saturday. In addition to all of the pro riders, Dirt Rider magazine’s Kris Keefer will be riding the Texas events, too, as will Husqvarna’s Andy Jefferson.
